After discovering a fantastic seat sale on West Jet, I decided to spend the weekend with my sister and her family in Ottawa.
There is about a 10-13 degree difference between Ottawa and Calgary.
Saturday morning, we arrived at the CHEO Teddy bear picnic, a fun-filled event for families that involved a petting zoo, some small rides, a pancake breakfast and many other entertaining moments for kids of all ages.

This lama was completely enjoying himself and all the snack cups that parents were buying the kids. Like a kid in a candy store, he paced around the small pen, eagerly nosing his face into the small out held hands of the children around him sniffing for food pellets.

I think this serious looking creature was plotting his escape.

We were lucky enough to be served breakfast by local celebrities, the mayor and TV and Radio hosts, who cheerfully posed for pictures before placing our griddle cakes on our plates!
After the breakfast, my brother-in-law took the kids to baseball and my sister and I went shoe shopping in ByWard Market. I ended up buying a very fantastic pair of Birkenstock shoes. I have been looking for a decent pair of sandals for my upcoming trip, but find that my flat feet need more support than most sandals offer. Once I break these in, I think they will be the ultimate support for my feet!

The ByWard market is a wonderful series of streets that offer fresh vegetables, flowers, restaurants, cafes and patio bars. Some of the colors were memorizing.

Whenever I see flowers for sale, it makes me want to get out my own gardening gloves!

We took a break from the stifling heat to enjoy a Vietnamese lunch.

The fresh basil and shrimp salad rolls were particularly delicious. The service was impeccable.

We stopped by our national parliament buildings. I think I would have explored more but it was so hot I almost couldn’t take it.

But the architecture is incredible.

It is true. I love my boyfriend more than I love bacon….but it is close!

After our hot day walking around, we settled on my sister’s deck with some yummy snacks and a fum friend for some great conversation.
I would highly recommend visiting Ottawa. There are so many things to do, it is amazing.
great post. loved the llamas
